The Gurdjieff Heritage Society, Inc. (“GHS”) is a non-profit corporation based in New York, New York, USA, which operates the Howarth Gurdjieff Archive web site (“the Archive”), located at https://www.howarthgurdjieffarchive.org.

What information we collect and how it is used

The GHS collects information about Archive visitors and GHS members in order to provide secure access to the Archive, track Archive usage, and communicate with members. Information collected from archive visitors and members is never sold or shared with any third party for marketing purposes. Information about visitors and members is collected in the following ways.

Member information collected with registrations

Visitors who apply for GHS membership submit personal information such as email addresses, mailing addresses, and information about why they are interested in GHS membership. This information is used for assessing membership applications, communicating with prospective and current members, and establishing login credentials for new membership accounts.

Usage statistics

The Archive site’s software automatically collects information about site usage, PDF downloads, and search history. In addition, the Archive uses Google Analytics to measure traffic to the site. Google Analytics collects non-personally-identifiable information about visitors. This includes which countries and cities visitors come from, their web browsers and operating systems, what sites referred them to the Archive, and what pages on the Archive they visited.

Usage statistics are used to find out how visitors are arriving at the Archive site, understand how members are using the Archive, and make the Archive more useful for members.

Server logs

Our web hosting provider logs some technical information about visitors to the Archive site, such as IP addresses. This information is not aggregated with any other information collected about Archive visitors or members. The hosting provider uses server logs to maintain the security and reliability of their infrastructure and networks, and to help prevent malicious activity.

Cookies

The Archive uses cookies — small files transferred to your device — to provide member log-in functionality and collect statistics about site usage. Cookies used by the Archive website include:

PHPSESSID	Used to manage member logins and identify members (required to use the Archive site).
_gid, _gat, _ga	Used by Google Analytics to collect statistics about site usage (optional).

Data retention

Information from GHS members is retained for as long as the subject of the information remains a member of the GHS. Information may be kept for longer for legal or record keeping purposes.

Google Analytics data is retained for 36 months after it is collected. Logs kept by the web hosting provider are deleted three days after they are recorded.

Accessing, updating, or deleting your information

If deletion of personal information is requested, certain information may be retained for archival or regulatory purposes, or otherwise as permitted by applicable laws.

MEMBER CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT

This online archive has been established for internal use only by members of the Gurdjieff Heritage Society, Inc. ("GHS"), a non-profit corporation in New York, New York and for its collaboration with the Jerome Robbins Dance Division research department of the New York Public Library of the Performing Arts.

Whereas the GHS has been entrusted as custodian of certain confidential and valuable information which has been collected by pupils, relatives, and friends of George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff and other individuals and groups interested in Mr. Gurdjieff’s activities, including materials of, but not limited to, Jessmin and Dushka Howarth; and

Whereas these materials include, without limitation, personal papers, writings, letters, original notes, photographs, music, recordings, videos, and detailed descriptions of Gurdjieff’s choreographed dances and movement exercises called movements (collectively referred to as “Confidential Materials”); and

Whereas GHS has been charged by these individuals and groups with the supervision and control of the dissemination of the Confidential Materials in accord with the explicit limitations upon such dissemination which have been articulated by those who have entrusted the Confidential Materials to GHS; and

Whereas GHS wishes to honor this trust and protect the confidentiality of the Confidential Materials;

IT IS HEREBY AGREED THAT, the GHS will provide the Confidential Materials to you for your personal use only and on condition that you shall not disclose, disseminate, copy, post to the internet, sell, transfer, or reveal to others any of the Confidential Materials without the written consent of the GHS. All Confidential Materials disclosed under this Agreement shall be and remain the property of the GHS. Confidential Materials shall not include any information that is already known to you at the time of its disclosure.

You agree that in the event of a breach or threatened breach of the terms of this Agreement by you, GHS shall be entitled to seek an injunction prohibiting any such breach. This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York.
